The Ultimate Private Observatory

This observatory is a tornado proof, climate controlled facility that houses two premium quality telescopes and camera equipment for viewing deep space and inside the solar system.  It is also a home theater and tornado shelter.

The structure is located in Southeast Louisiana and is in a residential area, therefore, making it a private observatory.

The roof is hydraulically operated. It rises up 14 inches, then rolls down (two)  51 ' 3"  long heavy I-beam tracks. Therefore leaving you sitting inside of four walls open to the night sky. Blocking wind and stray light.

Ther are two premium quality telescopes inside. A Meade 16" Ritchey- Chretien LX200 with a 6" Takahashi TOA 150 refractor mounted piggyback on top. These scopes are mounted on a heavy steel vibration free mount.

The observing chair is a two seater & also hydraulically operated. It revolves around the pier that the telescopes are mounted on. It is designed to put the observer perfectly comfortable behind both of the telescopes, no matter where they are pointed in the sky. The chair adjust up or down or closer or farther for comfort.

The room has a 7.1 surround sound system. (120watts / channel) Also it has a 36" sony high definition TV in the top corner of the room for veiwing deep space with the camera equipment attached to the telescopes.

This observatory was designed 100% and built 95% by the owner (Joseph) . He designed it for comfort while observing the night sky. It was also designed for convenience, (Example) : If you wanted only to observe for 30 minutes, the only work you would have to do, is when entering the observatory, turn on the key switch, climb up in the hydraulic chair, turn on the power to the telescopes, open the roof by pushing two switches and you are ready. There is a 1 hour 15 minute video available, that gives a personal tour of the entire observatory, including the hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, along with telescopes, camera equipment, & the hydraulic observing chair.

Violently Variable Black Holes Probed

Unique observations of the flickering light from the surroundings of two black holes provide new insights into the colossal energy that flows at their hearts. By mapping out how well the variations in visible light match those in X-rays on very short timescales, astronomers have shown that magnetic fields must play a crucial role in the way black holes swallow matter.
